Malinalxóchitl is born out of my experiences on a 2017 trip to Mexico City, a pilgrimage to visit Frida Kahlo's home and studio. Malinalxóchitl is named in honor of the fearsome Mexican Goddess/Sorceress of serpents, scorpions, and other desert creatures, who was known to eat the hearts of men and inspire terror. 

The shape and patterning of the beads are reminiscent of personal bead's of Frida's seen in photographs of her, and seen in Mexican folk art jewelry. By adding cast python vertebrae, I'm honoring a cultural exchange and alchemy between ideas, and homages to Snake magic, Malinalxóchitl, and Frida. 

This necklace measures approximately 18.5 inches from end to end and has a weighty feel to it. It features onyx spheres, small hollow sterling silver 'pearls' and four life-cast python vertebrae cast in sterling silver. At its closure- our largest, double sided, sterling silver eye talisman adds extra psychic protection which can be worn at the back of the neck or showing against the chest. Designed as a special, bold statement piece, it also layers beautifully with other BloodMilk necklaces.

Onyx:

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that acts as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. It is a wonderful grounding stone and a stone of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.
