A real crow claw, cast immortal in sterling silver & placed in close proximity with an 'Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows' rosary connector, bearing the 7 swords pressed into the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary which represent the 7 sorrows she had to bear. (I also liken this image to the 7 of swords card from the tarot).
This juxtaposition of images is also one of spiritual paths. being part Native American, I honor the spirits and natures of animals by creating jewelry with the parts they have left behind. By wearing the skins and bones of animals, the body is in harmony with nature, literally absorbing the natures of the chosen animals, honoring their lives and furthering it by the adornment, evoking their spirits. By joining the cast crow claw with a rosary part, I'm suggesting a union of beliefs and mythologies into a ritual necklace worn as a totem or enjoyed for it's unique aesthetic.
Why the crow? The dark bird of death in the bird family, related to gloomy weather, grave watching and other supernatural phenomena. I'm personally attracted to birds and the crow is by far one of my favorites, mysterious, and dark and beautiful.
Claw, rosary connector and bar link chain are all oxidized sterling silver that over time will further reveal it's silver underbelly.
The chain length is 16" long in the images.
Necklace is made to be worn over the heart but the chain can be lengthened upon request.
Claw is 2 inches long and 1 & 1/2 at it's widest.
Having been cast from a real claw, the nails are a bit sharp.
