Nocturne has had a few meanings over time; mostly based in art practices in the 18th and 19th centuries such as compositions for the piano (most notably Debussy) for evening entertainment or oil paintings evocative of the night.

It is also rooted in the French - meaning ‘of the night’. 

Designed in homage to Persephone, Goddess of the Underworld, this strand is meant to be a comfort or companion to those moving between - between worlds, between emotions, between people & places. For those who feel they don't belong anywhere...

This strand is composed of varying sizes of Sterling Silver 'pearls' ranging from tiny 2mm spheres up to an impressive 16mms.  These silver beads are each oxidized to our favorite shade of gloomy grey, and then finished by hand to illuminate the shining silver beneath.  It measures approximately 51.5 inches long from end to end, including clasp.

This serpentine length adds a versatility to the strand; its relatively light weight { in comparison to some of our other designs } as well as its dual design pattern gives the look of wearing two separate strands when worn doubled up. The varying sizes of the beads allows for a tactile experience for those who use these strands in ritual, mourning, meditation or other grounding practices that can aid the wearer return to their body in moments of anxiety or other discomforting emotions.

At its closure is our larger Pomegranate Clasp cast in sterling silver. A sister to our Dollhouse Pomegranate pendant, this clasp is tactile in nature making it easily held between the tips of your fingers and rubbed for comfort in times of grief, anxiety, dissociation, as well as during moments of joy and wonder.  

Pomegranates are a sacred symbol to me as they are sacred to Persephone, Goddess of the Underworld. Similar to how Eve was doomed the moment she bit from the apple, Persephone’s fate was sealed the moment she ate from the pomegranate, a few seeds bound her to the land of the dead and she became part of it, she belonged to it. This idea is used throughout other tales and narratives, eating the food of chthonic or otherworldly places binds you to them. A symbol of belonging.
