Inspired by our Crystal Tomb series in which cast claws hold pyramid shaped quartz and obsidian, this updated version of the Nyx necklace features two sparrow hawk claws, made immortal in sterling silver, cradling a stunning "new moon" round cabochon onyx stone.

Born of Chaos, Nyx, the Greek Goddess of Night or Darkness, is associated with having powers of prophecy and gives oracles. In other tales, she is associated with being at the cusp of creation and is the mother of Sleep (Hypnos), Death (Thanatos) as well as the three Fates. As a figure cloaked in mystery, she represents all aspects of darkness, the fertile, life giving aspects, as well as the more shadowy ones. The "new moon" onyx reflects the darker aspects of night and adds a potent talismanic quality to the piece.

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that acts as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. It is a wonderful grounding stone and a stone of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.

These jewels are hand cut and therefore may have very slight differences in size and may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. These are not fabricated by a machine, they are made by hand and therefore aren't uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stones and the cuts. 

The highly detailed sparrow hawk claws are a bit more delicate in aesthetic than our starling claws and add a quiet elegance to the piece. A sterling silver bezel holds the stone so both the domed front and smooth back are viewed, allowing the stone to "breathe".  Entirely made in sterling silver, the piece is paired with our signature bar link chain and oxidized to our favorite shade of gloomy gray and polished to highlight the silver underneath, revealing all the amazing details of the claws.

Please note, because of the length of the sparrow hawk's legs, the stone in this pendant hangs almost 2 1/2 inches below where the chain length ends. Please consider this when choosing your chain length and email us with any questions.
