The official end of the summer is at hand and therefore, the nearing of the time when Persephone will return to the Underworld. The thinning of the veil approaches, and the days will become
shorter. After an intense celestial season of retrogrades and book- ended eclipses, I’m ready for the introspection and stillness the colder months brings.

The Hermit card from Tarot is akin to this time for me. The Hermit is usually depicted as a cloaked elder, white bearded and guided by lantern light. This image also reminds me of one of my favorite pieces of art, Marcel Duchamp’s Étant donnés’, in which one must enter a darkened room and press their eyes to the two holes cut into an antique wooden door that nearly fills the wall space to view it. Once your eyes and mind focus to this interesting way of viewing, a macabre yet intriguing tableaux materializes: a kind of life-size diorama: a nude figure in tall grass, their face obscured from view holds a shining lantern up. A waterfall spills in perpetuity
in the distance. This is one of the strangest pieces of art I’ve ever encountered; I used to live and sleep less than a mile away from where it’s installed, a piece out of time. It feels like a tarot card
to me. It feels like The Hermit, like the Hanged Man.

The Hermit is the bear that fills itself and retreats into hibernation at the onset of the cold months. Like the bear, we fill ourselves with the world: with experiences, with people, and media, and the river of flux spills over within us. To process, to produce a wholly personal and intimate identity within and of the world, we are called to retreat inward and assess. We must face our shadow, accept and integrate our messy bits. This seems to me to be a lifelong task, one especially important to begin or give attention to on this timeline. We are in the eye of the storm, sheltered in our caves, studying ourselves and the entirety of the external world around us from a
still place.

These faceted ‘Cloudy Quartz’ spheres are ones I’ve been hoarding and saving up for nearly two years. I didn’t quite know where they fit, I didn’t understand what they meant to me, until now. Each quartz bead intuitively feels to represent the Eye of The Storm. Paired with the magic of sterling silver, this is a ritual strand for use in meditation, a balm for grief, or to be worn as a protective talisman for the journeying inward. I imagine it for the person who feels a bit alien while standing in the flux, for someone willing or needing to look closer.

Quartz is considered the master healer and is abundant in the mineral kingdom. These ‘cloudy’ beads contain varying shades of gray inclusions inside each sphere, some containing little flashes of rainbows so many crystals possess inside. Please note, due to their uniqueness, the colors of each will be individual and vary from strand to strand.

Enter into a relationship with this strand, with the parts that make it up, examine each crystal bead in both the light and the dark. Keep it safe when not wearing it.

This strand measures 40 inches long from end to end. At its closure, is our largest double sided eye talisman adds an additional layer of psychic protection. This eye can be positioned at the back of the neck or on the front of the body.
