It did however, inspire a lot of my new work and re-kindled my interest in spiritualism with a zeal. This motif was popular during the Victorian period \u0026amp; usually turned up in carved jet as brooches, the hand holding envelopes or swords of laurel. Here the disembodied hand takes on a haunted, ghostly appearance, levitating over the heart as if in protection.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThis image represents the hand of the medium, able to cross over to the other side, or the spirit world to communicate with those who have left the earthly plane.
