The Moonstone Tomb. Moonstone pyramid and Starling claws.

$375.00

A pair of cast sterling silver starling claws tightly clasp a 4 sided moonstone pyramid creating a stunningly and bold variation on my 'Crystal Tomb' series. Textures vary from sharpness of claws, the wrinkles of their cast skins, to the smoothness of moonstone, to the repetitive shape of the bar link chain mimicking small bones or the patterns of rosary beads.

The first incarnation of this necklace was released on the anniversary of the passing of someone who was very integral in forming my imagination. In this way this piece, like its previous version, it is a mourning piece, the moonstone representing a transmutation of memories, beauty, and grief while the claws refer to the link between worlds that birds often symbolize over many cultures.

Moonstone has been an important stone throughout my life & I am pleased to be able to offer it in this special cut that was custom made for me specifically for this design.  As its name suggests, it is closely tied to the moon, with some cultures believing the stone is solidified moon rays, while others think of them embodiments of the moon's tears. Acting as a kind of armor, it is thought to protect its wearer from not only dark nights, but dark times. It helps sooth grief, loss and other emotional turbulence. It is also a great tool for meditation and clairvoyance, & has been used in jewelry since ancient times for both its unique beauty and magic.

The pyramid shape of the moonstone suggests a tomb, a burial place where the ancient Egyptians laid their Pharaohs to rest. The design was suggestive of the descending rays of the sun and suggested a sort of stairway for the buried dead to ascend into the heavens Pyramids are also symbolically linked with the primordial mound from which the Egyptians believed the earth was created, having arisen from the lifeless waters of Chaos.

The claws and tomb together are approximately 3.5 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall.

Each pyramid is approximately 1 inch x 1 inch wide and 3/8 of an inch tall, making it  much more shallow than the quartz crystal version of this necklace.

Shown on a 16" chain length. If you are interested in a longer chain length that what is offered, please send a note here: bloodmilkjewels@gmail.com

IMPORTANT:
*** Please note that moonstone is a natural stone and will vary in color { shades of blue, violet, teal and even gold } as well as clarity. Most of my moonstones are cloudy and show their natural lines and internal textures that I feel add to the piece. These come from the earth and are therefore not 'machine perfect.'  If you are concerned about the stone I will choose for your piece, please contact me after purchase and I will help you. ***

On Death - Khalil Gibran

You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.

In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
and like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?

For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?

Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.
