Here, the 'Sacred Heart of Persephone: 8 of swords' coin has been married to a strand of onyx, spinel, and sterling silver beads to create this limited strand. 

Designed to be worn with the pomegranate close to the heart, this strand will be handmade for you in the length of your choice ( *approximately* 16 - 24 inches ) long from end to end, not including the clasp. At its closure is our smaller Pomegranate Clasp cast in sterling silver. A sister to our Dollhouse Pomegranate pendant, this clasp is delicate in size & tactile in nature making it easily held between the tips of your fingers and rubbed for comfort in times of grief, anxiety, dissociation, as well as during moments of joy and wonder. 

Pomegranates are a sacred symbol to me as they are sacred to Persephone, Goddess of the Underworld. Similar to how Eve was doomed the moment she bit from the apple, Persephone’s fate was sealed the moment she ate from the pomegranate, a few seeds bound her to the land of the dead and she became part of it, she belonged to it. This idea is used throughout other tales and narratives, eating the food of chthonic or otherworldly places binds you to them. A symbol of belonging.

Lately I’ve been feeling like my heart is on a pyre. That my heart is a book with a pen as a sword struck through it. My blood is ink - as Frida Kahlo painted her heart over and over - I write my heart into silver and hope you see yours reflected here too. 

This pomegranate heart is for those of you who see yourself in the 8 of swords of the tarot these days, for those who are watching this world of horror ( and also this world of beauty ) and feeling small to it, feeling like your efforts of change aren’t big enough, feeling like the tethers of this timeline have bound you too tight to move ~ as if your sorrow keeps you still. 

This is a talisman for those heartbroken and feeling trapped ~ a coin for safe passage to the otherside of these feelings & this time in your life. 

This coin is also for those of you who have a reverence or nostalgia for Catholic imagery while also feeling conflicted about some or all of the things the church stands for. ( I’m also not here to tell you what to believe in, or that what you believe in is wrong ). I did not grow up in the church but had a grandmother who went to church often and believed in what I thought at the time, as a young child, was  ‘supernatural’ things. She explained visions she had, she prayed in what felt like a magic way. She loved the story of the roses of Guadalupe, the imagery of the 7 sorrows of Mary. The statues that wept. Maybe you had a grandma like this too. If so, this is for you.

Persephone, who ascends and descends, who seems to belong everywhere and nowhere - the liminal one. She who ate the seeds. She who freed people of the free of death when they pilgrimaged to see her in ancient Eleusis.  A talisman for those who travel between worlds, who walk with spirit, who work with the dead. This is for you.

This coin is highly tactile and was designed to look like ancient currency. The back is smooth like a worry or river stone, allowing for a contrast of feeling when held in hand and rubbed between the fingers in moments of anxiety or daydreaming.  

Onyx:

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that acts as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. It's a wonderful grounding stone and stone of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.

Spinel:

Spinel is a potent stone for healing and protection: working to help clear intense emotions such as anger and rage, it imbues its wearer with a sense of calm. It is also used to heal the physical body and has powerful metaphysical qualities, helping its wearer to feel strong, assisting with perseverance, especially when dealing with issues from the past that have become difficult to overcome. Much like Onyx, it also helps repel negativity from others.
