I’m obsessed with comets & shooting stars. How strange that there’s a multitude of possibilities and perils and intense beauty hovering above us that most of us don’t even consider day to day unless the Moon or a certain planet is doing something interesting astrological. Comets especially hold metaphorical meaning for me because they were significant to the Victorians, so much so that they commemorated Halley’s Comet with jewelry on its return. To love a thing that appears on fire, a thing not of this world, is teeming with significance that you can sew your own thoughts and heart into. Another idea here is a new phrasing of ‘Having a Tiger by the tail’ ~ knowing you are in peril but having no way out- you can not let go, but you can't really move either. Feeling trapped with no exit, the walls closing in. But maybe holding a comet by the tail means grabbing something alien ~ letting it alchemically transform you in the crucible of intense experience, and riding it into the other side ~ the other worlds ~ journeying into the cosmos. Going somewhere new, being somewhere new.

The sentiment of Having a Tiger by the tail comes from ancient China - "Ch'i 'hu nan hsia pei" goes the Chinese proverb, translated in 1875 as "He who rides a tiger is afraid to dismount. The Oxford Dictionary of Proverbs interprets the old Asian metaphor as "Once a dangerous or troublesome venture is begun, the safest course is to carry it through to the end," " via The New York Times

Here, the intent is to ride or have the comet by the tail - facing the mystery of the unknown or the hardest/ugliest things in our lives that we may turn away from, and instead, going through it. Riding it in all its distress and danger, all its grief and sorrow, through all the inevitable pain its tethering may bring, and surviving. Becoming new on the other side.

 Silver Sheen Obsidian:

Silver Sheen Obsidian is a natural stone made of polished volcanic glass from Mexico. These beads are dark in color but have beautiful flashes of silver when turned, that resemble the moon going through her many phases, or tiny galaxies teeming with space dust.

Onyx:

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that act as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. They are wonderful grounding stones and stones of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.

Spinel:

Spinel is a potent stone for healing and protection: working to help clear intense emotions such as anger and rage, it imbues its wearer with a sense of calm. It is also used to heal the physical body and has powerful metaphysical qualities, helping its wearer to feel strong, assisting with perseverance, especially when dealing with issues from the past that have become difficult to overcome. Much like Onyx, it also helps repel negativity from others.
