A stunning oval rose cut green labradorite is set into a variation of our Persephone's Jewel setting, composed of life cast bat bones. 

Persephone embodies a number of complex dualities. She exists in the liminal space of belonging both to the Upperworld (Earth, the plane of the living) as well as the Underworld, the land of shadows and the dead. In each plane, she carries a different role; in the Upperworld she is the “returned” beloved daughter to Demeter. In the Underworld, she is Queen of the dead, shrouded in shadow and darkness. This ability to embody a dual nature also resides within each of us, we are capable of the transformations required to move between worlds and within each world; the inner and the outer realms of ourselves.

Persephone is a personification of death and rebirth, of renewal (seasons, the psyche) as well as the mysteries, terrors and power of the Underworld. She is both seen as destroyer, as well as linked to fertility, her mother Demeter controls the harvest while the darkness of the underworld suggests a metaphor for the creative wellspring.

Here, Persephone is visually linked to Hecate (who’s associated with guiding her out of the Underworld by torch light) by way of a similar aesthetic construction of the ring setting. Bat wing and leg bones (a creature also associated with the darkness of the Underworld with an ability to “see” with seeing) cradle a green rose cut oval labradorite, representing both the egg of transformation, rebirth, and fertility as well as the oval shape of the Pomegranate seed that Persephone ate, committing her forever to the Underworld.

Labradorite:

Labradorite is known for its healing properties, in particular for its ability to relieve anxiety & melancholy. It is also said to be used to dispel negativity & fear, acting as a kind of psychic armor to protect against more troubling & turbulent emotions. As a 'sister' to moonstone, Labradorite is often associated with the more "darker" aspects of the Goddess, in her Crone form, full of the experience & wisdom of life and death, associated with the darker moon: waning through new moon phases.

It is also a stone of transformation, and is said to help those with intuitive gifts to awaken and realize their full potential as well as helping enhance creative talents. It also ranks as one of the most protective stones, shielding its wearer from negativity. Much like its 'sister' Moonstone, Labradorite has been used and worn in many cultures and tribes for both its incredible natural beauty, and for its potent magical properties.

This jewel is hand cut and therefore may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. This has not been fabricated by a machine, it has been made by hand and therefore isn't uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stone.
