The Bookstore Cat is a special strand made in honor of the passing Amelia the Cat who resided here in Philly at the Spiral Bookcase shop. It is a tribute to all those who have lost a cat family member and to all of the cat lovers the world over.

The Cat: 

Cats occupy a liminal space between worlds, at ease in dark, nighttime settings. In fairytales they have acted as psychopomps and have long been associated with the spirit world. Anyone who has lived with a cat knows they oscillate wildly between calmness and fierceness and are never really ‘owned’ by any human.

The Cat is represented in this special Mourning strand as three 'crescent moons' composed of sterling silver life cast cat claws paired with different shapes and sizes of Onyx and tiny sparkling spinel.

- This strand features one set of our larger original cat claws, and two sets of our smaller original claws

- Measures approximately 42 inches long from end to end, including clasp

- At its closure is our medium sized, double sided eye talisman for extra psychic protection that can be worn at the back of the neck or on the front of the body

- Cat claws, double sided eye, and findings are all solid sterling silver, oxidized to our favorite shade of gray, and then hand finished to reveal the shining silver highlights underneath

- Small faceted, star cut, and smooth round onyx and spinel accompany the Cat Claws on this strand

Onyx: 

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that act as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. They are wonderful grounding stones and stones of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.

Spinel:

Spinel is a potent stone for healing and protection: working to help clear intense emotions such as anger and rage, it imbues its wearer with a sense of calm. It is also used to heal the physical body and has powerful metaphysical qualities, helping its wearer to feel strong, assisting with perseverance, especially when dealing with issues from the past that have become difficult to overcome. Much like Onyx, it also helps repel negativity from others.

This strand's 'Opera Length' makes it perfect for wearing doubled up as well as at its full length. Designed to compliment other jewels in the Mourning/Ritual bead line it also layers beautifully with other BloodMilk necklaces. Its light weight also makes it perfect to use for meditation or ritual practices.
