The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol, first appearing in Ancient Egypt, of the serpent eating its own tail in an endless loop. It has been found etched in gold on grave goods within King Tutankhamen’s tomb as well as turning up in ancient alchemical imagery.

This powerful symbol suggests the cyclicality of time and nature, eternal union with a lover, as well as the idea of the soul and the continuity of life. In Jungian ‘inner alchemy’ it is a ‘dramatic symbol for the integration and assimilation of the Shadow.’  Much like the Phoenix, it is said to be a symbol for destruction and rebirth.
