Based on our beloved, first Halley’s Comet design, this features an Onyx and Spinel comet in forward and reverse, moving in the cosmos like a hummingbird - one of the smallest birds, weighing about the weight of a penny. 

Often there is this intense feeling of smallness in the world, the smallness of the hummingbird in comparison to the cosmos. To be alive feels strange, to live on the edge, to be liminal, to hold these two feelings - that there are comets racing across the night sky ( one is currently visible until February 2nd in certain parts of the world ) while also tiny hummingbirds flit between flowers and we exist briefly - in between this all. A key to these feelings. A key to belonging to the world and all its strangeness. A comet that can look backward, while also moving forward, but to also help you feel present and grounded, now, in your body.

All of our jewels are made to order and take 6-8 weeks to complete. If you purchase a ready to ship item with a production piece your order will ship when your jewel is completed.

This strand is composed of faceted, smooth round, and star cut onyx, as well as tiny glittering spinel. It measures approximately 40 inches long from end to end, including clasp.

This 'Opera Length' makes it perfect for wearing doubled up as well as at its full length. Designed to compliment other Onyx jewels in the Mourning/Ritual bead line it also layers beautifully with other BloodMilk necklaces. 

At its closure is our smaller, double sided Endless Night clasp cast in sterling silver. At the 'heart' of the strand is our smaller, double sided Key of Endless Night.

Each of the keys in this series was based on drawings made by my husband, Aaron Horkey, as I peered over his shoulder and requested my 'dream' keys, making them even more special to me. 

Onyx:

Onyx is best known for being a natural stone that acts as a kind of 'psychic armor' against the negativity of others. It is also used to sooth grief and heartbreak. It's a wonderful grounding stone and stone of self mastery, enabling its wearers to have mental and spiritual focus.

These beads are hand cut and therefore may have very slight differences in size and may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. These are not fabricated by a machine, they are made by hand and therefore aren't uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stones and the cuts. 

Each bead has been hand selected for its quality.

Spinel:

Spinel is a potent stone for healing and protection: working to help clear intense emotions such as anger and rage, it imbues its wearer with a sense of calm. It is also used to heal the physical body and has powerful metaphysical qualities, helping its wearer to feel strong, assisting with perseverance, especially when dealing with issues from the past that have become difficult to overcome. Much like Onyx, it also helps repel negativity from others.
