The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol, first appearing in Ancient Egypt, of the serpent eating its own tail in an endless loop. It has been found etched in gold on grave goods within King Tutankhamen’s tomb as well as turning up in ancient alchemical imagery. This powerful symbol suggests the cyclicality of time and nature, eternal union with a lover, as well as the idea of the soul and the continuity of life. In Jungian ‘inner alchemy’ it is a ‘dramatic symbol for the integration and assimilation of the Shadow.’ Much like the Phoenix, it is said to be a symbol for destruction and rebirth.
Carefully molded and cast from a mummified snake found in the heat of the south, this bangle / arm cuff is truly a potent protectionary statement piece. Here, this unfortunate snake lives on with each of its wearers, taking the shape of two symbols of eternity, the Ouroboros and the Lemniscate.
None of the body of the snake has been hollowed out – making this a bangle with heft, cast in solid sterling silver and hand oxidized and polished to achieve our signature shade of stormy, gloomy gray. Designed to be worn either as a bangle at the end of the wrist or, as a nod to the traditional snake shaped arm cuff found across time, further up the forearm.
** AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SIZE. Please read before purchasing. **
We have found that the most common size ordered is the 8" version, but please measure before purchasing as these bangles can not be resized.
Having a friend help you, we recommend using a soft tape measure to measure tightly around the largest part of your hand. If a soft tape measure is not available to you, use a string and then measure string against a ruler.
