Inspired by our Crystal Tomb series in which cast claws hold pyramid shaped quartz and obsidian, this updated version of the Nyx necklace features two sparrow hawk claws, made immortal in sterling silver, cradling a stunning "full moon" round cabochon moonstone.

Born of Chaos, Nyx, the Greek Goddess of Night or Darkness, is associated with having powers of prophecy and gives oracles. In other tales, she is associated with being at the cusp of creation and is the mother of Sleep (Hypnos), Death (Thanatos) as well as the three Fates. As a figure cloaked in mystery, she represents all aspects of darkness, the fertile, life giving aspects, as well as the more shadowy ones. The "full moon" moonstone illuminates the darker aspects of night and adds a potent talismanic quality to the piece.

Moonstone is closely tied to the moon, with some cultures believing the stone is solidified moon rays, while others think of them as embodiments of the moon's tears. Acting as a kind of Psychic armor, it is thought to protect its wearer from not only dark nights, but dark times; it helps sooth grief, loss, and other emotional turbulence. 

Moonstone is known for its powerful psychic abilities. Used to protect empaths & sensitives from absorbing other people's emotions, it is also is known to be used during meditation for connecting to ones inner selves. As a romantic stone, it is known to strengthen the bonds between lovers when given as gifts, especially during the full moon. 

As they are entirely natural, earth made stones, color and clarity will vary from stone to stone. Moonstone often has a milky appearance and natural inclusions that appear as lines or inner 'cracks.’ The flash will contain shades of blue, violet or teal, and occasionally hints of gold.  If you have any concerns over the stone that will be chosen for you, please contact us after making your purchase so we may best assist you.

These jewels are hand cut and therefore may have very slight differences in size and may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. These are not fabricated by a machine, they are made by hand and therefore aren't uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stones and the cuts. 

The highly detailed sparrow hawk claws are a bit more delicate in aesthetic than our starling claws and add a quiet elegance to the piece. A sterling silver bezel holds the moonstone so both the domed front and smooth back are viewed, allowing the stone to "breathe".  Entirely made in sterling silver, the piece is paired with our signature bar link chain and oxidized to our favorite shade of gloomy gray and polished to highlight the silver underneath, revealing all the amazing details of the claws.

Please note, because of the length of the sparrow hawk's legs, the stone in this pendant hangs almost 2 1/2 inches below where the chain length ends. Please consider this when choosing your chain length and email us with any questions.
