The AfterLife Part II. Crossed sterling hummingbird skulls.

$150.00

The delicate image of the tiny, lightning fast hummingbird, (weighing only the weight of a penny), is paired conjoined with a twin, their beaks crossing to form a protective talisman over your heart. These two symbols are then further joined with luminous sterling silver, metal found deep in the earth, and known for its qualities of retaining memory.

Here the hummingbirds act as guardians, a symbol of the afterlife and higher consciousness. Cast immortal in sterling silver and forever conjoined at their beaks, oxidized to my obsessive shade of gloomy gray.

Hummingbirds measure 1 3/4 inches wide and 1 inch long on a 18 inch sterling bar link chain, measure about 10 inches on each side. Please send me a note if you would like this a little shorter or longer.

The hummingbird is known as the only bird that can fly backwards as well as forwards, suggesting a kind of time traveling or extra sensory ability. Birds in general are often associated with having a place in both the earthly world as well as the spirit world, making them sensitive to death and higher consciousness.

Being relegated to the Western hemisphere only, the hummingbird turns up in native and Aztec lore and myth. Aztecs wore hummingbird fetishes as emblems of strength, and for the image of their sharp beaks, symbolic of bloodletting and piercing. The image was carved onto the shoulders of priests and hummingbirds were also considered to be reincarnated warriors. This idea is often found in other cultures, and thus the hummingbird is often associated with containing the spirits of those who have crossed over.

Personally, I saw my first hummingbird in person at Lily Dale, a Victorian town filled with spiritualist mediums. I spent two days there seeking answers from the dead, and more importantly about the afterlife, and left feeling a bit of peace, though I am still on a never ending quest to learn as much as I can about the afterlife, and whether we can continue relationships with our beloved dead.
