Inspired by the Greek Gods of the four cardinal winds, known collectively as The Anemoi, this ring features Victorian design elements representing each wind God cradling a smooth, round Black Mother of Pearl cabachon.
Throughout time, the wind has been viewed as a direct connection to the divine, to our ancestor’s belief in God ( in whatever form that takes ), to Spirit, and to the Soul. It was and is believed to be a universal life force, unseen, yet felt, ushering in change, whether that be via calm or chaos. It can howl or whisper, it can be warm or cold, it can forcefully push or gently touch the body or objects as large as ships and buildings. It teaches us to bend and sway with it, rather than break against it.
Considered to be a manifestation of the earth’s breath, it is also therefore associated with inspiration, which as etymological roots in breath. This come from the belief that a divine entity is breathing inspiration and influence into you.
The four cardinal wind Gods:
Zephyr, the gentle West wind and messenger of Spring
Eurus, the East Wind, associated with turbulent winds that effect ships in Mythology
Boreas, the North Wind, Cold Wind
Notos/Notus, The South Wind, that brings the storms during the end of summer into Autumn
These Greek Gods were personified as horses or as older bearded men, interestingly, their female mates were the Harpyiai, ( harpies ) and were considered “swift robbers” or sudden, sharp gusts of wind. They were later given their more known form of winged women, sharp clawed and dangerous, known to snatch people with their claws and carry them away in the winds.
This ring is a talismanic vessel for change, inspiration and for emotional resilience in times of turbulence. Winds take on many forms and bring with them unseen gifts and dangers, and are uncontrollable variables of life, as nature and her wildness often is. Paired with Victorian design, this jewel is tethered to the past, when the beauty of design in even the simplest of things was more carefully considered. Whisper your desires, secrets and wishes into this ring and share your breath, your wind with it, or wear it simply for its beauty.

Pearls
Have an ancient history of reverence as well as a long legacy of beauty. Pearls are formed when an external irritant, like a grain of sand, breaches the shell of an oyster or shelled mollusk. Once this irritant has gained entrance within the dark fleshy confines of the oyster, it goes to work protecting itself. If this irritant can’t be expelled, it begins to ‘bandage’ the grain, coating it with concentric rings of calcium carbonate, named ‘narce.’ Each layer that is built up forms the shape of the pearl, awash in a brilliant iridescence, a beauty born of a tiny trespass. Thusly, a pearl has at its center, the object of its creation, a foreign intruder.
I associate the pearl and its strange construction to so many things: the jellied caterpillar struggling within a chrysalis, its liquefied body form a new winged shape. An embedded star smoldering within the shell of our hearts. An ink dot, a pin prick, a moon in miniature. History, who has always loved and revered the pearl, writes that we once believed pearls were the result of lightning striking the shell and penetrating the inner skins of the oyster. A small beauty made in duress, a ‘stone’ of initiation. To possess a pearl means to own something that is hidden, sacred.
Lore has it that Cleopatra, to win a wager with Antony, dissolved a large, exquisite pearl in her drinking glass. She swallowed it in one sip. I wonder about her dreams that night.
Black mother of pearl ranges in color but traditionally they are dark in color with an iridescence that may include shades of pink, blue, green, and brown when turned in the light.
This jewel is hand cut and therefore may have small signs of the carver's hands along the edges. It has not been fabricated by a machine rather it hand cut and therefore might not be uniformly perfect. The photographs accurately portray the quality of the stone and the cut.
