The Lovers Ring: Sterling Silver & Moonstone

$200.00

Quite like the ‘Belonging to The Darkness’ ring series, these rings are imbued with a variety of meanings:

It’s important to me to tether my work to the past, and in these rings, many pasts are collected and collaged together: firstly, the snake/s here are a manipulated casting of a found, juvenile, mummified snake that once lived. Its small body was carefully molded and these jewels each represent a small memory of its life that will live on with their wearers. Due to this, its body appears ancient and well worn, only subtle detail was added back in.

Secondly is the ancient symbol of the Ouroboros: a snake eating its own tail. The oldest known image dates back to the 14 th century BC to grave goods found within King Tutankhamun’s tomb.
It has also appeared in Alchemy, Gnosticism, and Norse, Aztec and Chinese legend…spanning different continents and time lines. The word is rooted in its appearance: Ourboros is a Greek word meaning ‘ tail devourer .’ Its meanings vary slightly, but to most, it is a symbol of eternity, of the eternal cyclicality of both time and nature. It is also a symbol for the unification of opposites or opposing forces, creating a ‘oneness’ from disparate objects, people, beliefs, aspects of ourselves….

Here, the ring has also been connected, by its name, with The Lovers tarot card. It suggests the eternalness of love in its many forms: familial, romantic, friendship, kinship and so on. They
represent our attachments and relationships to people, ideas, and ourselves: our sentimentality, our devotion, our loyalty as well as to the idea that we share everything, including our shadows,
with those we are most close to.

Each of these rings represents an eternal commitment to a person, an idea, a spiritual belief, or, most importantly, to one’s self. Over the course of history, jewelry has been used as tokens of remembrance, as symbols of love, as talismans and amulets. This ring is imbued with all of these functions and it is up to the wearer to activate which particular function they feel the intuition to commemorate.

This version represents The Lovers: twin Oroboroi cradle an antique setting that holds a fine cut round natural gemstone.

Moonstone is closely tied to the moon, with some cultures believing the stone is solidified moon rays, while others think of them as embodiments of the moon's tears. Acting as a kind of Psychic armor, it is thought to protect its wearer from not only dark nights, but dark times; it helps sooth grief, loss, and other emotional turbulence. It is also a great tool for meditation and clairvoyance, & has been used in jewelry since ancient times for both its unique beauty and magic.

As a romantic stone: moonstone is thought to keep the passion alive between lovers when one gives it to another, especially during a full moon.

Please note that moonstone is a natural stone, clarity and color will vary from stone to stone. Moonstone often has a milky appearance as well as natural inclusions within the stone. The flash will contain shades of blue, violet or teal, and occasionally a dark gold.
